Christmas in Scotland

Christmas 2010 was magical. We had a lovely Scottish breakfast at our guesthouse in Edinburgh and then took a drive through the country to Atholl Palace in Pitlochry (I kept repeating that name with a Scottish accent all day...) for a four course lunch overlooking the winter wonderland that is currently Scotland.

We asked a sweet little old lady (the only person around) to take our photo. This is what we got:

Since she was lingering around, I didn't have the heart to ask someone else to take another photo.

As you can see in the photos, they had party favors, including hats for us to wear. No one was ashamed to wear them, and people of all ages were blowing up balloons and blowing the noisemakers. It is the biggest birthday of the year after all.




Our drive home was pretty much in the dark, since it is dark by 4pm. On top of that, our windshield wiper fluid wouldn't spray on the windshield which makes for an interesting segmented drive of 5 minute increments since we had to pull over to put water on the windshield. According to Alamo roadside assistance, "This is normal, man. The whole of Scotland is having this problem." (Imagine with a Scottish accent.) Whatever...We didn't let it dampen our spirits though.
