We have said many times since getting back that it will go down as one of the best trips we've taken, and listen, we've been to a lot of really amazing places. We woke up every day with no agenda, yet every turn we took was surprise after surprise. Perhaps it felt so amazing because we can appreciate freedom, peace and quiet and lack of schedule because we have lost all those things since Matteo was born. (And we love him to pieces of course.)
Cannon Beach was the perfect place. Quiet and small, yet plenty to do. We ate out every day and there were lots of places to choose from. We had many delicious meals. We felt so spoiled. There were lots of shops and galleries and parks. It had everything.
Haystack Rock was literally behind our hotel. Amazing.
We visited Haystack Rock at low tide and how amazing! We saw so many sea creatures and we were able to view all the birds that make their mating grounds (from April to August) on the rock, including puffins! A local biological society had telescopes set up so we could see the birds up close. It was so interesting!
It was a little drizzly our first day there. Nothing we couldn't handle. :)
Ecola State Park was just north of town and had an amazing vista. A few miles in was Indian State Beach. We had it all to ourselves. We were wowed.
On the second day we traveled a few miles south to Hug Point State Beach. It was so fun exploring the beach and all the sea caves at low tide.
On the last night our hotel set up a bonfire with s'mores for us at sunset. The s'mores were delicious and we enjoyed watching the sunset over the sea. It was a perfect end to our perfect getaway.
